Pg. 210- My Moments of Helplessness and Despair
We all have our moments of joy and rage, of love and loathing. Each and every one of us also has our own sense of dignity and self-respect. Over the past decade and a half, in my searches for massacre victims’ families, I have faced setback upon setback, and experienced my share of helplessness and despair; reflecting on some of these moments still sends chills over my body to this day, but could never convince me to abandon my efforts. I’d like to share with my readers a couple of cases which have been particularly hard to forget. I have disguised the names and work units of the individuals in these accounts, in order to avoid hurting these people who are, after all, just like me, victims of the massacre of 16 years ago.
Ding Zilin, the founder and leader of the Tiananmen Mothers wrote a book in 2005 about the victims of the Tiananmen Massacre. This is the final excerpt we will release from the only English translation of the book.
